Tropical paradise, as we know it, is an artificial construct; but to go there all you need is something to stimulate your imagination. From the grey urban setting of London, from the plastic cocktail stirrer in your drink, imagine yourself exotic.
Where the miniature world of cocktail decorations meets the beaches of Hawaii, my photographs and prints are pure artifice. Where ever you are, find a palm tree and it doesn't matter if it's plastic, look at it and let your mind wander. The palm tree is a classic cocktail stirrer motif and in all instances they are the symbol of the tropics, through the palm we can escape. Inspired by tiki culture, exotica music, flamingos, Miami deco, Hawaiiana, Thor Heyerdahl's Pacific expeditions and all things tropical, I like to examine the artificial, celebrate the fake and encourage the dream.
